Italab Power Amplifier Modules

ITB from Italy manufactures power amplifier modules, using state of the art

48V MRF6… transistors by Freescale. These transistores make it very easy to have a linear amplifier at very high amplification levels. The efficiency of the modules is typically around 70%. The modules come preassembled and don't require alignment. They are built on Teflon PCB, mounted on solid 5mm copper heat sinks.

Some modules have a directional coupler and/or a SWR bridge installed. The construction of the transistors and the entire modules is very robust. Some of the modules would withstand a SWR of up to 65:1, given enough cooling. This enables you to construct a power amplifier which are easy to use, without any tuning.

All PA modules must be installed on a large, actively cooled heat sink for operation. The operating temperature must not exceed 40°C at 25°C ambient temperature. For best heat coupling the copper base (5 to 5.5mm thick) is precision milled. The ready to use 'Box' models come installed on a large heat sink. To build a fully useable amplifier further items like HF switching, power supply, fans, protection circuitry, maybe a low pass and a case are required.

The modules are covered by the usual warranty by the manufacturer, except for the transistors. The modules require a power supply of 44 to 48V DC, at an consumption of up to 30A, depending on model. WiMo offers a suitable power supply.

 

144 MHZ PA module

 

Super compact final amplifier modules for 2m, up to 1000 or 2000W output power. Comes installed on solid 5mm copper plate for installation on a larger heat sink. An inhibit input can be used to shut down the amplifier in case of high SWR or other malfunctions. Input and output are designed to use 50Ω, allowing direct connection to coaxial cable or coaxial sockets. For operation a low pass filter like IL-1KLPF is recommended. When using higher input power or as protection against power peaks a power divider at the input is recommended, for example the IL-ATT-6DB.

434 MHz PA module

Power Amplifier module with heat sink, integrated low pass filter and SWR bridge. Suitable to construct FM/SSB and CW amplifiers. 50Ω in- and outputs equipped with HF connectors, 50Ω coupler output at -60dB available for measurements, temperature sensor built in. The integrated low pass filter suppresses harmonic signals with at least -75dBc. The integrated SWR bridge checks the output SWR and closes down the amplifier in case of high SWR.

       6 DB Power Divider

Power Divider as a chip, to be installed directly in front of the input of the PA module, onto the heatsink.

This power divider serves two purposes. One it protects the amplifier against too high input power loads as a result of an operator error. Secondly it is not advised to reduce the power of a driver transceiver to some watts, because linearity usually decreases at low power levels. So better run at a medium power level (and good linearity) and then reduce the power level with a divider. Further, some transceivers produce a full power spike even at low poer settings, against which this divider can protect.

Low Pass Filter 144 MHz 1kW

Low pass filter for 144MHz (2m band) for high power levels of up to 1000W. Suitable for use behind a power amplifier of up to 1kW output. Low insertion loss, good suppression of harmonics. Built on PTFE (Teflon) PCB.

Powerful and compact switching power supply for 48V, up to 1800W continous output power..

The Eaton APR48 power supply is a switching supply with high efficiency, designed for continous operation in communication systems. The professional electronics of the power supply has an excellent power factor correction (PFC) at a nominal efficiency of up to 92%. The ambient temperature can be as high as 70°C. All connectors on one side, direct plug system on PCB. For connection to mains and DC a special connector is required,  reference IL-PSU-KIT.
